The Pain Point

Emergency diesel gensets must go from 0 to 100% load in seconds — data centers, hospitals, and airports cannot tolerate even a momentary power dip. This step-load transient creates a massive torsional shock through the crankshaft and generator rotor. If the system’s natural frequency sits anywhere within the operating speed range, a barred speed range appears — and the engine may not survive its first real emergency call. Generator short-circuit torque during a fault event can exceed normal operating torque by 5–8x.

We provide full shaft-line torsional analysis covering engine, damper, coupling, generator rotor, and short-circuit torque events. Based on the results, we specify silicone-oil or steel-spring composite dampers precisely tuned to shift all critical speeds outside the operating envelope. Optional condition monitoring sensors track damper performance and crankshaft torsional stress in real time, feeding into plant-level SCADA or BMS.
